Medici Choir was established in 1951 to perform during the
Festival of Britain. Back then we were known as the 'United
Hospitals Festival Choir', and indeed most of the choir members
at the time had some kind of connection with hospitals in central
London.
Our present conductor, John Baird,
joined Medici Choir as an accompanist. As well as guiding us
through the classic choral works and contemporary pieces (see our
concert history to look at our varied repertoire),
John also composes his own choral works, which the choir works
hard at to make successful premiere performances.
Today the choir is a large and friendly group of over sixty
voices, young and old. In addition to our three concerts every
year, we also take part in a Christmas carol service at St. Mary
Magdalene's Church in Wandsworth Common.
Also, we've recently been invited to sing at private
commercial events and weddings - as well as
festivals abroad in Paris and Prague.
The choir most recently went to Berlin in June 2005.
