The choir spent a very enjoyable weekend in Berlin, a fascinating city, in June 2005.
We sang the Sunday morning high mass at St Hedwig's, the Catholic Cathedral in the eastern part of the city. This included an arrangement of Bach's Nun Danket alle Gott (this well known hymn tune brought tears of joy to the eyes of many a member of the congregation) and John's Missa Maria Magdalene: a new work, written for the occasion, and named in honour of the church in Wandsworth where he is organist.
Some of the highlights of the trip included expeditions to sunny Potsdam, the Jewish Museum and Checkpoint Charlie. Not forgetting, of course, quail and olive icecream at Remake, and our rehearsals in the Kempinski Hotel: possibly the only time a Mass has been heard in a cocktail bar!
